For the first time in months, I finally saw a few members of my extended family. Seeing people outside my immediate household was like a breath of fresh air- I almost forgot what it was like to spend time in the company of others, besides my parents and sister.
Nothing against them, of course. But I have a fairly large, incredibly close extended family. In thinking about it, there's basically one birthday or another holiday a month. All that to say, basically, that we see each other a whole lot. Which is really nice- it's nice to get together, enjoy some good food, and just generally spend time with one another.
I'm pretty sure the last time we were all together was sometime in February. We had my sister's birthday planned for March, but then... coronavirus came to town. Which means, it's been a long time. Waaaay too long.
Until tonight. A few days ago, we got a call from my aunt, inviting my sister and I over for dinner. So, for the first time in what felt like eternity, a few of us were back together. Yes, we paid attention to social distancing. Yes, it felt strange to be keeping such a wide berth. But, it was nice nonetheless. Complete with pie.
Realistically, it was probably the highlight of the weekend. It was like a glimpse of a "bygone era", of sorts. Hopefully, we can gain some more normalcy like this soon.
