It was back to reality this morning- after a nice, relaxing August long weekend, my alarm went off at 7 am, and it was back to work.
It would've almost felt like we never left, except we were completely swamped due to the little... hiccup... that happened on Friday.
Flashback to Friday morning, I'm sitting at the reception desk (providing much-needed coverage for our normally receptionist, who was taking a *super* long weekend), and next thing you know: the fire alarm goes off.
See, most people start at 9 where I work. This happened at 8:45 am. Meaning: there was basically nobody around, except students- and none of us really had any idea of what to do (as an aside, for some weird reason the front doors become super heavy and nearly impossible to open when the alarm goes off... it legitimately took two of us to get the door open).
So we're standing around, waiting, and then a fire truck shows up... then another... then another. And one thing leads to another, and next thing you know, the building is "unsafe for work" and we all get the day off! Cut around to standing outside for another couple hours (since everybody else was complaining enough that they got to in and get their stuff before my lab)- and I'm home by 11:30 am, on the Friday before the August long.
Long story short: the weekend was extra long, and I felt extra lucky for that . Granted, not much happened (though there was yet another mini grad dinner held in my honour- yay!), but I guess that's to be expected, because... pandemic.
This summer's gone by super fast. And while it's been devoid of any crazy happenings (think: travel, spending time with friends, generally taking time off, etc. etc.) it definitely hasn't been bad. Which, I guess is all anybody can hope for these days.
Less than 4 weeks of work left! And less than 4 weeks until I start school... again.
