animal takeover

The office I work at also happens to be located on the campus of my university. There's always been a bit of a goose problem, you could say- notices that "geese were on campus" and to "avoid certain doors" to certain buildings, for fear of being attacked.

But lately, everybody is at home, and not in campus buildings. Which means the geese have taken over, once and for all.

But it's not even geese either. I can see the gym and the agriculture complex from the lab I work in, and there's deer running around too. It's like the real-world version of animal crossing that's apparently so popular right now. Sadly I don't have a Nintendo Switch, so I can't figure out what all the hype is about, but it really does seem like animals are everywhere and all the rage lately.

There were articles that came out when people first start social distancing about how birds seem louder now than they used to, and how there's animals moving from rural to urban environments. Plot twist for you: the birds aren't louder now. There's just less noise pollution in cities (for the time being).

Inevitably, man-made noises outside will pick back up- think more vehicles traffic and sounds of planes overhead. I doubt anybody will comment on how birds seem "quieter" again. In the meantime, it's nice hearing sounds of life (even if it is crows cawing outside your window at 6 in the morning). It does, however, make you think for a minute about how we only really seem to notice and care about their presence while this pandemic is on. We're going to leave this pandemic changed as a society- maybe how we regard and treat the environment will be changed after this too
