The world watched in horror this week, as the US Capitol building was stormed by a group of brainwashed domestic terrorists, who thought they were saving the "world's greatest democracy" from a "stolen election". Basically, they were doing the bidding of a glorified man child who never should have been president and his goons in the senate.
The meaning was obvious. The US is no longer the world's greatest democracy. By all accounts, they lost the right to call themselves that in 2016 when Trump became president. Just because anybody could be president doesn't mean that anybody should.
2021 was off to an okay start, at least. Nothing calamitous happened, until the fall of American democracy and all that. And while it's jarring, and indicative of the times, there remains hope that democracy will recover and 2021 will improve itself.
With any luck, once Biden takes over, the balance point of the universe will be restored and some form of global ascent can begin to occur. If anything became obvious from this past week, it's that we have hit bottom. There's nowhere else to go but up.
