This past week, myself and a former classmate in the B.Ed program were invited to our alma mater's Distinguished Alumni Awards gala.
Yes, two women barely out of University were back at an event targeted towards alumni.
While yes, we're alumni, we're barely alumni, it felt like.
We were invited on behalf of of our former Faculty, seeing as we were President and Vice-President of the student council last year. If nothing else, it was a night of great splendour, eating excellent food, listening to great live music, and enjoying the experience of being back on campus, albeit on the other side of our time as students.
The award recipients were inspiring, the atmosphere collegial - all in all, it was a treat to be back on campus. Hard to go wrong with good dessert and good company, I'd say.
More than that, in a week that felt like it was dragging on and on, having an event to attend on a Thursday night (though the timing seemed strange) felt the perfect reset - a much needed respite from my new day-to-day.
So here's to the trailblazers, here's to the innovators, here's to the Bisons past and present.
As the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award said: "On Manitoba".
I'm proud to count myself a member of the University of Manitoba Alumni community.
On Manitoba, indeed.
