Well, I'm officially out of "retirement".
For the meantime, anyways.
My first shift of my two-week contract extension was today, a whole four days after my coworkers and I said "goodbye". Yup, definitely jumped the gun there.
But, as a way to say thanks for the kind (but ultimately unnecessary) farewell, I brought in a dozen donuts. And I was surprised by what happened next.
There's 7 of us in my lab, including me. For different reasons, a couple of people don't eat sugary things like that, so I figured there would be plenty of leftovers. After all, normally when there's treats and stuff, everybody limits the amount they eat.
Except for donuts, evidently.
Because people were grabbing them and taking them home for their kids, and their husbands. Like one of the technologists pointed out, nobody ever needs donuts, but they weirdly have a way of getting to you. Maybe it's just the sugar talking, but everybody seemed to be in an even happier mood this morning. Not sure if it's just because they were so happy to see me after a whole four days, or people just hadn't had donuts in a while, but whatever it was, the atmosphere was nice on the first day "back".
Plus, the locker room smelled like donuts, and that's always a bonus.
