So as life would have it, apparently I'm now a fan of the Eagles.
Yes, this past Friday, legendary rock band the Eagles ventured back to Winnipeg, playing their entire Hotel California album and some of their best hits. My aunt, who was fortunate enough to win tickets, was kind enough to bring me along. As somebody that knew of maybe 3 (and that's being generous) songs of theirs, I didn't know what to expect.
But, I agreed to go along, and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed.
Going into it, I was initially apprehensive. I'd been at work all day (and let me tell you, my days are LONG), the rain was pouring, and the concert was late. But we ventured off to Boston Pizza, got a seat in the bar (I got carded, since apparently I look that young), and following some chicken tacos, it was off to the nose bleed seats, and the concert began.
From the early opening notes of Hotel California (and what a start to the show that was), I found myself recognizing the odd song and mentally storing others in my mind, inevitably to be played later.
I've had the Eagles playing on repeat since the concert ended. I'm hooked.
Unlike other bands I've seen before, it was obvious these guys - even aged 70+ - were playing their own instruments. The sound quality, though loud, made it possible to fully bask in every word, every note.
There was a short break after they played through both the A and B sides of the Hotel California album. Then we were treated with hit after hit. Though we did end up leaving a bit early to beat the weather and the rush of people leaving, the night was a massive hit, and I'm glad I got to take part.
Perhaps if there was one regret, it was not getting a t-shirt. But for $50 a pop, it was probably worth holding off. Who knows, maybe one day, ha!
