kayaks and coffee

It's been a social week, and it's only mid-Wednesday. Not bad for summer.

We kicked off the week with coffee with my old supervisor, which culminated with her gifting me enough classroom decor to get me through the first several years of my career (if not my entire career). Yesterday night, I was kayaking along the Red River with a friend, basking in the views of the city from the largest of Winnipeg's waterways. Today, I returned to the same local coffee shop I frequented earlier this week, and met up with yet another friend, who I haven't seen since convocation and grad back in June (which at this point, feels like a lifetime ago).

It was nice last night, drifting down the river. And once getting over the stress of kayaking on the ever-mighty Red River, and putting up with the occasional motor boat ripping by, it was nice. Quiet. Relaxing, even, getting to take in another vantage point of the city. It's been a long time since my only canoe trip through the city. Winnipeg really has a different vibe from down on the water.

The next several days are teed up to be just as busy - which is nice, given my drive to keep things exciting before starting work. While it remains yet to be seen whether the remaining time off which include another trip out onto the water, my dad is off next week, and we're planning on cramming as much summer stuff into the week as possible.

Basically, all this to say, the summer is going well, it should continue to go well, and it'll be nice to maximize the enjoyment of summer before the real work starts!

Enjoy the view of the sun setting on the Red River... but you'll have to excuse the chipped nail polish
