This weekend is Thanksgiving here in Canada - we like to celebrate a little earlier than our American counterparts; give us a sort of break between Thanksgiving and Christmas, you know.
So later today, I'll be eating Turkey and pie and being thankful that the situation this year is different to the one we were faced with last year.
Last year, it was a "pick up the Turkey and eat at home" kinda feast. A sacrifice we made (unlike some others) out of common respect and decency. As a precaution measure. We did what we had to do, to play our part in the fight against COVID.
This year, we'll be back together, and though it'll look different than it did in the "before times", it's a much closer approximation to the normalcy we all long for.
The world is forever changed after the last 19 months, no doubt. But this weekend, I'll be conscious of the fact that, slowly but surely, we're getting through this, back to a new "after times" world that will no doubt combine the best elements of our old lives, and the best practices we've found in this new setup.
We've come a long way, let's be thankful for that.
