Before this whole pandemic thing, I had no idea what Zoom was (honestly, I'm not even sure it existed). I never had a reason too. If you had asked me two months ago how to talk to people via the Internet, I would have either told you Skype or FaceTime.
Turns out, there's more ways than I ever thought.
Not that I'm surprised- we do live in a digital age, after all. But suddenly, Zoom is a popular fixture (which granted, gave rise to Zoom-bombing), and it seems like more people than ever are intimately acquainted with Microsoft Teams.
But the winner, in my own humble opinion, is Houseparty.
Apparently, it's been around for a while; I had never heard of it (clearly, I'm not as ~trendy~ as I thought). But I gave it a go for the first time yesterday with my aunt, cousin, and sister, and it was genuinely one of the most fun apps I'd tried in a while.
Because, not only can you talk with people, there's also in-app games, that made everything more fun. The major discovery from that conversation? Our drawing skills need some work. But hey, it's the thought that counts, right?
It's obvious that given the nature of the world right now, apps old and new are stepping up their game. It's inspiring to see if nothing else. Because hey, if we're all going to be forced apart, may as well embrace the opportunity to challenge friends and family to a drawing match, right?
