Today was a hectic, crazy day... one of those ones you just kind of want to get over with. Not much "good" happened today, but there was at least one (exciting?) thing that happened today.
The longest running student at my work finally left. After a whole decade, he's off to vet school, and new things. Because he's been there so long, I've known him literally as long as I've worked my current job, so it was weird saying goodbye. And, with him gone, I'm now the longest-running student out of the currently employed crop of students.
He applied several times before finally making the cut, so if nothing else, there's a lesson in persistence hidden in that story somewhere. We'll all super happy for him- it was well-deserved.
But it's a good reminder of the passage of time, so far as this summer is concerned. Of the students that I've been working with for the past few years, one got into vet school, the other got into a med lab tech program, and I'm starting a B.Ed. in a little over three weeks. We're not lowly undergrads any more- we're moving on- moving up- toward new things.
So in spite of the fact that today was, by all accounts, kind of crappy, there's a good reminder that it's not forever. That there's new things to look forward to, and that old adage that this too shall pass.
How's that for optimism?
