rainbow obsession

There was apparently a massive thunderstorm last night.
I must’ve slept through it, because I didn’t hear a thing. But, at some point last evening, there was also a rainbow, which became a double rainbow (how special), and that was apparently all anybody cared about for a solid half a day.
Seriously, there was CBC coverage on this rainbow.
So, as I took my daily scroll through Instagram, I was met with rainbow picture after rainbow picture after rainbow picture. And just when you thought you were done... another rainbow picture. But it got me thinking- how did we get here? Instagram used to be full of people posting pictures of them with their friends, or photos of the totally-aesthetically-please meals they were eating at numerous restaurants. But now, one of the top stickers for Instagram stories literally just says “stay home”.
It’s actually somewhat encouraging.
It seems the Canadian response has been good enough so far to delay a crazy exponential curve in cases (barring Ontario and Quebec.... yeah, let’s not think about that right now). Especially when juxtaposed with all the protests happening in the US about reopening all the states (because, as one sign said, people “want a massage”), it just goes to show that the old Canadian “can-do” spirit is alive and well.
We’ve been apart for a month and two weeks. That’s a long time to be physically apart. But we can still be together online- even if that means sharing a million rainbow photos.
