In case you were living under a rock, tomorrow is Valentine's Day.

Yes, the holiday manufactured by Hallmark cards to drive business is still happening, and this year, it'll be taking on a different format.

Obviously, we needed to get a gift for the 3 little girls in the family - because they're cute, and they've been troopers given the disaster the past year has been, so why not. The gift of choice this year? Cookie decorating kits from a local bakery.

As I stood outside waiting to get in the store, I knew they'd be busy. What I wasn't expecting to see was dozens of shelves packed to the brim with orders waiting for pickup. And, while the staff were running around filling orders like champs, I took a minute to just be appreciative. For one, that I was no longer standing in the cold. Also, that I was standing in a place that smelt like fresh baking. Lastly (and most importantly), that a local business was doing well.

There's certain local establishments and institutions that have been around forever, and we just always assume they'll be there. This pandemic has shown us that this may not be the case.

I, for one, am glad to see that some of them are around for the long-haul.
