that's a wrap, folks | hello, 2023

Well, ladies and gents, for all the anticipation, that's it, that's all: the holidays are finally over.

After weeks - nay, months - of anticipation and buildup, the presents have been opened, the meals have been eaten, and the new year has been rung in. The final family event happened today - celebrating one of two birthdays - and now it's time to recover, rest, and get started on those resolutions.

I still have a week until return to my "real" life. It's been a busy last week, though: Christmas, birthdays, celebration dinners, and hockey games. It's flown by in a blink and been pleasurable to boot. I'm hoping this next week gives me a chance to pause, catch my breath, and mentally gear up for term two.

The rollover of the calendar to a new year is always an exciting thing. Like a lot of other people, I find January 1st to be a good excuse to mentally reset. To reflect, to regroup, and to reengage. This year was no different, and perhaps even most significantly: January 1st, 2023 is a new month in a new year, and it's a Sunday - the start of a new week. Call it a triple reset, if you will. The clock has rolled over, this year is ours for the taking - the way the calendar has lined up, it almost feels like a good omen for the 365 days ahead.

It's crazy to think on what life was this time last year. I was still a student, and had no idea what came next. Now, I'm working, making progress towards my Master's, and eagerly awaiting whatever is meant to come next.

January is gearing up to be an exciting month, with school starting back for my students and I, my second grad school course kicking off, and a final return to French classes. Will it be busy? Yes. But now with a term under my belt, I'm excited to fleshing out the other aspects of my life.

2023 will be a good year. Let's see what it has in store.
