I wish I had something more exciting to say lately, other than "the countdown is on". Cause really, it's been day by day, minute by minute... a slow (but good) slog, ever onward towards the ever-elusive winter break.
The kids are antsy, and dare I say, the staff are too. But as we wait patiently, and try to get some good quality work done, we've dedicated a not-insignificant amount of time to getting the classroom decorated for the holidays.
There's lights, and wooden snowmen made during shops, and tinsel, and student crafts, and mini Christmas trees, and, and, and... the goal, apparently, is to make it look like an elf threw up. Well if we haven't already accomplished that, I'd say we're getting pretty close.
No doubt as the days roll on (only 10 more school days until the break!) there will be more added. I'll give these kids credit, even those that don't celebrate Christmas are on a mission to get festive. Sitting in a cozy decorated classroom is a major comfort right now, especially given how long some days seem.
So this time in exactly two weeks, I'll have officially survived my first full term as a teacher. There will be 2 well deserved weeks of rest, then back for round 2.
But in the meantime, you can find me, glitter-covered and waiting for break, behind my desk in the school basement. It's all far more festive than it may seem.
