On a personal level, the last week was very, very good.
On a global scale, this wasn't the case.
After Putin ordered the unlawful invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces earlier this week, an international audience has watched as former members of the Soviet Union were drawn back into a bloody war, that's already claimed the lives of countless men, women, and children, of every race and creed.
The mere notion of another war in Europe was difficult to imagine. Watching the images and videos and reading the stories coming out of Ukraine have been totally and completely heart wrenching.
Though I can claim no Ukrainian heritage, growing up in Manitoba, I know countless numbers of people who can, and who are rightfully shocked and terrified at what has unfolded thus far.
I'm rooting for Ukraine. I'm rooting for the allies. I'm rooting for everyone who is working to shut the Russian government, emphasizing that this type of action simply is not allowed.
Most importantly, I'm rooting for people in Ukraine - that this will end quickly, and with as minimal chaos as can now be managed. I'm rooting for the families that have already been charged with incredible loss in the face of a senseless war.
It didn't have to be like this, yet somehow, here we are. Ukrainians at home and abroad are fighting. The rest of the world ought to join.
