Yet another Manitoba summer is passing by, and marks yet another season staying put. The shock has worn off a little this summer, I think; we've well and truly adjusted to the notion of staying home and staying safe, and are used to the absence of the excitement that a vacation typically brings.
But, despite the inability (or general unwillingness) to travel out-of-province, that doesn't mean that there isn't lots to be seen in Friendly Manitoba. There's a multitude of small towns and iconic Prairies sites, located just a stone's throw away from our fair city.
Today, in particular, we ventured north to the Steel City - Selkirk, Manitoba. Admittedly, the purpose of the trip was basically to go to Home Hardware, and there were actually a few interesting things to purchase (what a big day!). The trip back home included at stop at Skinner's in Lockport, yet another Manitoba classic - not to get hotdogs, or any other classic drive-in food, but rather to get ice cream (which is, naturally, still a win). The person taking the order even complimented my sunglasses, which is an added bonus (thanks, Ray-Ban!).
This summer is flying by in the blink of an eye. We're already pushing late July, and with class registration coming up soon, no doubt we'll soon be back in the thick of the Fall term, with assignments, deadlines, and Zoom classes aplenty. But, in the meantime, there's still summer heat to be enjoyed, so maybe while there's time, venture outside of your own four walls, and take in the sights.
Odds are, you won't regret it.
