week one is done

I survived my first week of my B.Ed!

And wow, was it crazy.

First things first: a day full of Zoom/WebEx/Blue Jeans calls is exhausting. Literally, I've been ready for naps nearly every day.

Secondly: people are so much nicer than when I was doing my undergrad?! Not that people were mean, per se. But, there's something undeniable about being with a group of people that'll all be in the same field.

I also noticed that I'm younger than most people (seemingly... at least the ones I've talked to anyways). It seems like lots of people are pursuing second careers, or took a few years off after completing Bachelor's degrees before becoming a Teacher Candidate. The imposter syndrome felt real for a little bit there earlier this week. Thankfully, the more work we did in small groups, the more I realized my opinions were just as valid as everybody else despite me having less "real-world" experience- that did a lot to calm the nerves and I definitely people like part of the team (as my one professor calls us).

I also made a friend! Or started to anyways... as much as you can make friends via the internet in the first few days of classes in a new degree. She sent me an email after we had been communicating back and forth on the class discussion forum about the week's topics. That did a lot to calm the nerves- and it's nice to not be a loner, ha!

There's also literally so many Phys. Ed. majors. Seriously. In one of my classes my prof posted the breakdown of everybody's majors. There were 3 biology majors (including yours truly), a couple general science, a few English, and 10 GYM TEACHERS. Plus I've met several more in other courses and breakout sessions I've been a part of. Don't know what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't that.

So yeah- week one was a success! So far, everybody is super nice, and though the general consensus seems to be that we wish we could all be together in person, we're making the best of the situation and this whole online learning thing.

On to week two!
