40s nightstand upcycle : day two

Writer's picture: LeahBeeLeahBee

Well, thankfully, day two went off without a hitch! The second coat of paint has been added, and the project is really starting to come together.

It felt significantly easier today, and I think there's a couple different reasons for that. Firstly, I had an idea of what I was doing, which obviously makes anything easier. Secondly (and perhaps more significantly), we moved the nightstand out of the spare room, and onto the dining room table (after putting sheets down, of course!) which gave us more room and better light. That made the second coat both easier and faster.

Weirdly enough, the paint seemed to dry much quicker today, compared to yesterday. Not sure why that was the case, but that also sped the process up nicely.

The next step will be the metallic finish, but application of that may be a couple days yet. This is a step new to both of us, so there'll need to be some playing around to decide how best to apply it. We did, however, sample the colour, and it should provide a nice subtle shine. It's noticeable, but won't be too overpowering.

The last notable point about today was a quick trip to Michaels we made. There was purchase of a couple small wooden items (specifically, a small wooden box and wooden "L"), and I was loaned the remainder of the paint used to complete the rest of the bedroom set (another colour called Sunday Tea, again by Country Chic), meaning I'll have a couple small projects of my very own to keep me occupied.

These first couple coats of paint have made for a busy weekend, but an incredibly productive one. It's nice to see results in a short time frame (instant gratification, you know?). To top today off, I was also able to get a few photos that weren't completely blurry (yay!). There's the nightstand when we started this morning, with only one coat of paint applied. Then there's a closeup of the drawer, and a photo of the entire piece after the second coat was applied. I think the colour difference is now fairly evident. I also managed to get a final photo that gives a better idea of what the colour is actually like in person.

All in all, this project helped make for a great weekend!
