gimme the sugar | sweet tooth overdrive

Personally, I’ve always had a bit of a sweet tooth.

Actually, that may be an understatement. That delay of instant gratification/marshmallow test given to children? Yeah, I definitely would’ve failed that. As far back as I can remember, I’ve had a “thing” for sugary treats.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I’ve made one key observation this last month: during quarantine, my sweet tooth seems to have gotten worse.

I’m not sure if that’s just because there’s more baking happening at my house now than there used to be, or if being at home has somehow prompted me to crave sugar even more, but for some strange reason, cookies just seem to have a prominent spot in my thoughts these days.

I don’t think I’m the only one either. For days now, my sister has been talking about Timbits from Tim Horton’s. So much so, that after we went on a drive earlier today, we swung by the Tim’s drive-thru and got drinks, and a 20 pack of Timbits. The plot twist? There was a promo going on, where if you spent over $10, you got a free pack of 10 Timbits. All this to say, basically, that our donut cravings have since been thoroughly satisfied.

Realistically, it would probably make sense to cut back on the sweet treats. But I’ve been exercising regularly lately, so maybe I have a case as to why I want all this junk food? Either way, it’s a good lesson: that despite everything that’s happening, it’s important to look for little, attainable things to bring joy to the mundane.

Even if that “thing” happens to be cake.
