So week 1 of this “staying away from everybody” thing is done.
Wow.
It was simultaneously horrible and also not that bad.
Classes being online hasn’t thrown things off kilter too much (yet). But there‘s plenty of discussion from students online talking about how hard it is to stay motivated. Personally, I’ve been good at staying on top of things, but some professors aren’t holding up their end of the bargain and getting things up on time! It was interesting when the professor said she'd post notes by 2:30 pm on Friday and didn't upload them until 5:00 am on Saturday... Guess everybody is forgetting days of the week and times of the day now!
The “highlight” of the week (if you can call it that) happened the other day though. Obviously, given how society was stocking up on canned goods, we naturally have a lot of cans in this house at the moment. And cans require can openers, right?
Well, in the middle of opening one of these cans, the can opener SNAPS IN HALF, rendering it useless.
Seriously. Didn't think a can opener was capable on snapping at the top hinge, but apparently they are... there's your fun fact for the day!
Thankfully, an early morning trip to the store resulted in the purchase of two new can openers, while still maintaining the oh-so-important social distancing. Why two though? That way if another one breaks, we'd still be good to go, ha!
To top it all off, the next day after dinner, when the dishwasher is running, a weird noise comes from the sink. Turns out the sink was backing up. While that didn't result in any significant problem, and was fixed by just running the garburator for a second, just seemed fitting that something like that would happen after the can opener incident. Go figure.
I think slowly but surely everyone (myself included) is getting used to the new normal. It feels weird having everybody home all the time, and not going to class as normal. Thankfully the transition to life online has been more or less smooth. But definitely hopeful that this next week has less broken can openers!
