a new project

If I had to describe today, I'd say that it was a day marked by learning how to do basic home renovation/maintenance tasks. "Thrown to the wolves" so to speak, and forced to cut the grass, I learned how to successfully navigate a corded lawnmower (more or less- some spots were definitely missed), followed swiftly by learning how to operate a variety of saws, in order to construct shelves for a closet.

Teach a man to fish, and all that.

It was actually weirdly enjoyable, seeing a tangible result from something you were doing (and in a relatively quick timeframe- I also learned I definitely need instant gratification, whoops). But another new project fell into my lap this evening, long after the grass was cut and the shelves were stocked.

As I was at my aunt's house for dinner, we got to talking about her next project: refinishing an old nightstand, with a fresh coat of chalk paint to liven it up a bit. As we're discussing the project, I come to volunteer myself.

And then it hit me.

I'm always looking (and often struggling) for things to write about on here; why not help out with the furniture upgrade, and document the process?!?!

Genius, I know.

I guess, basically, this is an "announcement" of sorts, that there'll be a sort of "nightstand painting series" coming shortly. That, and that I'm actually improving as an adult, because now I can semi-successfully cut grass and operate a table saw (albeit with adult supervision). I'll still take it as a win. Indulge me, won't you?

Honestly, I never thought I'd be this enthusiastic about saws or painting. But I guess stranger things have happened.

Wish me luck, ha!
